The back fist is extremely useful because of its speed and simplicity. It was often used by Bruce Lee in his “Fighting Method” series as an effective parry-check-counter technique, which is a combination taught any many different styles. The back fist is simple in execution and application, but versatile for practice because it can be used for sparring, sport competition, and self-defense. Every martial artist should consider adding this technique to his or her arsenal.
Tips and Usage – Keep the arm relaxed until contact, snapping it for speed and power. For the second one, only snap it forward, not back; strike all the way through your opponent. The first backfist style should be used for the face, while the second is excellent for striking the ribs. Some martial arts focus the impact on the back of the knuckles, while others use the back of the hand. Choose either one, but practice them often so that you do not hurt yourself in a fight.
