One of the most important aspects to golf is choosing the appropriate clubs to carry in your set. The quality and efficiency of your club set is largely going to be determined by the various irons that you have. Only through carefully choosing the right clubs are you going to be able to hit the ball farther, more accurately and ultimately improve upon your game.
Irons are aptly named because the heads of the clubs are made up of metal, which historically has been cast-iron. Even though wood drivers are currently made out of metal as opposed to wood, irons have been exclusively made out of metal for as long as the game of golf has been a sport. Irons are intended for use on the fairway, in between driving the ball, and putting on the green. There are several different types of irons that you should choose, depending on your style, skill level, and athletic ability.
Some individuals recommend that beginner golfers use iron clubs that are characterized by a cavity back style. It has also been suggested that golfers who only play recreationally should choose this type of style as well. Cavity back or perimeter weighted irons have a hollowed out club head that makes it much easier to consistently strike the ball in comparison to traditional muscle back irons. This club can be a great help to players as it makes it easier to get greater distance on the ball due to the clubs extra weight.
More experienced players will typically use a muscle back style, or blade style iron. These irons do not have a cavity and provide the user with a stronger, fuller stroke. A muscle back iron also gives a player more strength behind his or her shots.
It is also important to understand the basics behind irons, so that you can purchase a set that will provide the strongest stroke and greatest distance. A “traditional” set typically has a combined total of eight irons, ranging from a 3 iron through a pitching wedge. The different irons are identified by their number, or by a PW as in the case of a pitching wedge.
Mental toughness is the ability to consistently play at or near your best regardless of circumstances.
Coaches and players generally agree that the mental game is the most important element of baseball, yet most coaches know much more about the mechanics of the game than the mental aspects.
In this report, I discuss one way to help coach baseball mental toughness in your players. (Look for more articles on this topic from me – there are lots of ways!)
Coaching a team is complex: much more art than science.
It would be arrogant (and foolish) of me to come up with a list of things to do and tell you “Do this and this and this and you’re team will be mentally tough.”
The ideas I’m presenting in this report are just that – ideas. You need to know yourself, you need to know your team to determine what you need to do.
Listen To Your Team’s “Level 3”
Three levels of conversation are now taking place on your team. Level 1 is the conversations each person is having in his head. We are always talking to ourselves. Yours is the voice you hear as you read these words.
Level 2 conversations are the words that are spoken out loud. This is what you usually think of when you hear the word “conversation.” It’s what people are saying.
Level 3 conversations are what is there but people aren’t saying. It’s the unwritten rules, values and assumptions of the team. It includes the team’s mood, energy level, level of respect and the expectations the team has for success.
All three have important implications for mental toughness, but I want to highlight Level 3 because it’s the least familiar.
Level 3 is like radio waves.
Think of how a radio works. We can’t see the sound waves, but we know they are there because our radios can pick them up and give us music and news.
Cross marketing in business today is very popular, one company uses another brands success to market their own items. This is normally a win-win situation for both companies. One of the largest brands that is marketed this way is Harley Davidson. Though a Harley is THE American motorcycle, you can find many other Harley Davidson items. This ranges from the obvious motorcycle accessories and clothing, to knives and trucks. But the latest thing that I ran across with Harley branding is a foosball table by Carrom Foosball tables.
If you like foosball and Harley’s, then this is the table for you. It comes in the black and orange that is Harley’s trademark colors, with a really cool playing field. The unique playfield has a metal tread plate look (though, obviously, it is flat), with the Harley logos along the side of the field with flames extending down both sides of the field from the logos. On these Carrom foosball tables, the players are orange and black, and the playing rods are chrome-plated steel, that adds to the overall look of the table. The Harley Davidson logo and flames are applied to the sides of the tables using high quality graphics and screen printed using enamel for wear resistance. Everything about this table is designed not only for top quality, but also to enhance the look of the table, all the way down to the adjustable metal feet with black rubber leg boots, which is perfect for leveling the table and eliminates any table movement that is often associated with a screw in leg leveler.
Now, besides motorcycles, Americans love their cars and NASCAR is the number one spectator sport in America. It is also very common to see a large variety of NASCAR items for sale in many stores that have nothing to do with cars. I was in a local hardware store recently and saw NASCAR clocks. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that Carrom also offers a Licensed NASCAR foosball table.
NASCAR Carrom foosball tables feature artwork by renowned motor sport artist Sam Bass. Three cars race down the side, with the NASCAR emblem and the artists signature. The graphics are digitally printed with a baked UV coating, allowing for a wonderful finish that will last for years. The players are red and blue and are designed to look like NASCAR drivers. Both wood beaded scoring racks are done in black.
Many tennis players will not take a good look at the importance of their grip on the tennis racket. The expert will recommend that you restring your racket several times each year, but do not explain to the players that having the right grip is going to mean a lot when it comes to playing your game well and having the best tennis score as possible.
When you are shopping for a tennis racket, it is so important to consider the stiffness and the head size of it. Once you have made the decision you should make sure that the racket is the correct grip size for you. The most available sizes start at 4” and will be increased by an eight of an inch.
There are so many different ways to grip a tennis racket. Depending on the level that you are playing at, you may learn one or more of the ways to grip onto the racket. There is the western, eastern, and the continental way of gripping. One of the basis ways of holding the tennis racket is to act is if you are grapping someone’s hand to shake. You will see that this is a comfortable grip on the racket, which will allow you to have a better game. It may be weird at first, but once you learn it, you will get used to the feeling.
If you are feeling the need to increase your grip size, you can apply and over grip to your regular way of holding the racket. This will save you on the wear of your grip and will also give you a better feel. The good thing about over grips is that are not expensive and you can try them till you find one that feels the best for you.
It really does not matter if you are a professional or a beginner, you should understand the different grips and the options that are out there for you so that you can have a better game. If you are not comfortable with the grip that you have on your tennis racket, you may not have as much fun on the courts. You need to make sure that you have all of the information so that you can have fun and be good at the game too.
